patients in the home, nursing homes and in-patient units in accordance with an
established physician plan of care and under the supervision of a registered
nurse case manager or other professional as dictated by state. Actively
participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Directly involved with
caring for patients and promoting comfort on a daily basis. Observe the patient,
report observations and document observations and care performed.
Provide timely documentation of patient services based on plan of care. Adhere
to Company policies and procedures and regulatory compliance requirements and
directives. Travel as necessary. RequirementsÂ• Minimum age requirement of 18.
Â• Proof of certification by a state recognized certifying body, and proof of
state certification, if applicable.
Â• Passing score on Odyssey’s skills test.
Â• Minimum of 1 year of direct patient care experience in an institutional or
home care setting and community health/Hospice experience preferred.
Â• Sufficient documentation of having passed a skills test and written/oral test
demonstrating those competencies identified in OBRA-87, 42 C.F.R. Sections
484.36 and 484.4. In lieu of such documentation, a newly hired HHA must
demonstrate skills and written/oral competency prior to working independently
with a patient.
Â• Compliance with accepted professional standards and practices.
Â• Understanding of Hospice philosophy and needs of terminally ill.
Â• Physical exam in accordance with state law.
Â• Valid driver’s license with maintenance of good driving record and an
automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or Odyssey requirements
and is in good working order.
Â• Good physical stamina and mental health. Has presented a pre-employment health
certification including a negative TB skin test and/or CXR and other tests as
required by Odyssey policy and/or state law.
Â• Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers.
Â• Demonstrate excellent observation, good judgment and communication skills.
Ability to provide good written documentation in a timely manner.
Â• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write simple
correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group
situations to patients/families, other caregivers and members of the
interdisciplinary team.
Â• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems
involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Â• Flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation and has ability to work
within an interdisciplinary team.

My company, CEI Staffing Services (a no-fee agency), provides on-call health care professionals to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi. The Armed Forces Retirement Home offers Independent, Long Term/Skilled Care, Assisted Living, and Special Care (dementia) options for its residents.
Due to a large number of our current employees moving into full time positions (both on site and elsewhere) we are currently short staffed and in need of supplementing our staff with quality individuals.
As stated above, the current contract with the Armed Forces Retirement Home is for on-call nursing staff. Typically, I receive a schedule indicating shift needs at the start of the month and proceed from there. However, there are also instances when a federal employee has an emergency and a true call-out ensues which may require coverage as soon as possible (though notification is usually 8-16 hours in advance of the scheduled shift).
Our biggest need right now is primarily second shift during weekdays and a combination of second and third shift on weekends.
Current pay rates are as follows:
CNA: $12.79/Hour
And Shifts are as follows:
Evening Shift: 3:00PM – 11:30PM
Night Shift: 11:00PM — 7:30AM
Holiday pay rates will always be counted as ’1.5 X Regular Rate’ or ‘time and a half’ as it is sometimes called.
The procedure outlined by the Armed Forces Retirement Home requires that I submit a complete credentials packages for their review prior to orientation.
