We currently have an employment opportunity for C.N.A. in our Health Center.
Responsible for performing a variety of duties related to carrying out individualized care for residents.
Takes and records vital signs and condition including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height, and skin condition. Maintains bowel and bladder retraining work sheets and schedules, and turn sheet records. Assists with physical details including listing clothing and valuables, making introductions and helping with admission and discharges. Assists the licensed nursing staff with medications according to the California Department of Social Services (DSS) and Department of Public Health (DPH) regulations. Assists residents with ADLs including, but not limited to feeding, bathing, shampooing, shaving, oral hygiene, skin care, toileting, hair care, dressing and undressing.
Collects urine and stool specimens. Empties foley bag and measures and records contents.
Performs perineal care; gives laxatives, enemas, laxative suppositories, medical shampoos and baths, nonlegended topical ointments, creams, lotions and solutions applied to intact skin. Assists residents with feeding and monitors that diets are correct. Passes ordered nourishment and bedtime snacks and assists residents to take them as needed. Charts intake of food and liquids. Utilizes safety precautions as required for individual residents (eg: seat belts, side rails). Ensures that the use of restraints on required individual residents are used properly and that residents are released for 10 minutes every two hours to exercise.
Maintains a variety of basic reports and charts residents’ ADLs daily; gives reports to licensed personnel prior to shift change. Escorts residents to and from appointments and activities as needed.
Lifts and transfers residents as directed by proper lifting techniques and guidelines. Assists with ambulation with and without assistive devices as ordered. Recognizes and reports concerns regarding residents’ physical, mental and/or emotional status to supervisor. Reports all sudden health changes to licensed staff immediately. Assists Activities staff in the implementation of activities to encourage resident participation.
Performs light housekeeping duties, including but not limited to maintaining a clean, neat and safe environment for residents in rooms, bathrooms, corridors and eating areas. Changes bed linens; cares for personal laundry. Performs other work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Knowledge related to the issues of aging and resident care. Knowledge and understanding of and ability to comply with work safety practices and procedures, and guidelines relating to industrial chemicals. Knowledge and understanding of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Proficient written and verbal English communication skills to complete necessary reports and follow instructions in order to communicate with residents and staff regarding resident’s care plans. Effective interpersonal skills to meet and greet residents and their families in a positive manner and work cooperatively as part of a team. Ability to maintain positive customer focused approach as well as the confidentiality of resident, staff and organization information. Ability to determine the extent of a resident’s ability to participate in various activities. Ability to work in a self-directed manner and exercise initiative. Ability to act and react calmly and with good judgment in emergencies. Ability to seek guidance for clarification. Ability to act with patience, tact and courtesy in dealing with residents, their families, staff, vendors and volunteers under demanding and difficult conditions. Sensitivity and understanding of issues related to aging. Physical skills and ability to perform work that requires sitting, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Certificate and a current CPR Certification. One (1) year of CNA experience preferred and experience with the aging highly desirable.
