Initial Independence, Inc. has recently expanded its services in Missouri, and has openings for full-time Live-in Companions working with people with developmental disabilities.
Companion job duties include, but are not limited to: assisting people with day to day support needs, helping them pursue community based interests, maximize independence, medication administration, schedule and attend doctor appointments, expand circle of friendships, budget money, be a positive role model, and explore leisure opportunities.
Candidates for Companion positions MUST be willing to reside in the home or apartment of a person with a developmental disability. In exchange for sharing a home and life with a person supported by Initial Independence, Companions are compensated with a competitive salary, paid rent and utilities, food allowance, and a comprehensive benefit package. Companions are off work during the day Monday-Friday(typically 9am-3pm) and have 48 hours off each weekend. (Companions can choose to work the weekends for additional compensation)
Position requires someone that is positive, responsible, flexible, patient, supportive, and person-centered. Must have a desire to support consumers with developmental disabilities in a residential setting, a sincere interest in the people they will be working with and their well-being, an open minded and flexible personality, the ability to be a good listener, and the ability to gently and positively divert individuals from problematic behaviors.
Companions will possess a High School Diploma or equivalency. Prior to assuming sole responsibility for the provision of support to any individuals served by Initial Independence, Inc., candidates must successfully complete all required training, show proof of valid driver's license and liability insurance on vehicle, and agree to allow the agency to complete a criminal and social services background check. Initial Independence, Inc. provides opportunities for potential Companions to spend time with people supported on the front end to ensure that a good match occurs.
