Certified Nursing Assistant STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: CNA / HHA (AKA Nursing Assistant)
HOURS: Full-Time. Every Other Weekend Required. Awake Overnight.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Nursing for all Medical Services, Director of Housing Services for Non-Medical Services, Administrator and House Manager.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing personal care and delegated nursing services designed to maintain the client's physical and emotional well being.
RESPONSIBLITIES, DUTIES:
• Build relationships with our residents and their families.
• Assist the client with personal cares which may include all or some of the following: shampooing of hair, assist with showering, rubbing with lotions, fingernail cares and foot cares if instructed to do so by an RN, medication administration, redirection of a confused client, and other cares as assigned.
• Assist with dressing, grooming and oral cares as assigned.
• Assist in use of hearing aids and glasses for clients.
• Help each client to reach and maintain the highest level of performance and independence.
• Assist with treatments as delegated the Register Nurse according to the client's individualized care plan.
• Observe client and report changes in physical and emotional condition such as change in attitude, loss of appetite, weight, etc.
• Medication administration or assistance with self-administration of medications as delegated by RN.
• Prepare meals as directed, following special meal plans if instructed.
• Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as instructed. Report changes or concerns to RN.
• Attend in-service training as assigned.
• Dust, vacuum, mop and other cleaning chores as scheduled and assigned
• Lead client activities as scheduled and assigned.
• Responsible for own schedule - must staff own shifts if you need time off. Manage personal schedule and contact Director of Housing Services with scheduling questions Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm. Must also notify Director of Housing Services of any scheduling changes or conflicts including updated School Schedules.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence and documentation on each client.
• Ability to effectively present information on one-to-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
REQUIRED SKILLS, LICENSURE AND ABILITIES:
• Must be a licensed CNA or HHA with the state of Minnesota
• CPR certified (but not required)
• Must have a negative Manteux test
• Must understand and communicate using specialized medical terminology.
• Must be punctual, with a good attendance record.
• Must be mature and emotionally stable using calm and kind tone of voice, remaining calm in difficult or unusual circumstances.
• Must promote clients' independence, not dependence, by offering choices and fostering self-help skills.
• Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
• Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
• Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.
• Must work as a team member with other personnel, supervisor and RN.
• Must adhere to the no gossip policy.
• Must contact the Director of Nursing with any medical related questions or concerns.
• Must contact the Director of Housing Services with all non-medical questions or concerns.
• Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, bend and walk. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear and taste and smell.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to minimal.
• Inside work while assisting clients.
• Minimal exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, Infectious Diseases.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
